I didn’t know that churches like this existed…
We are hearing this more and more. When it comes to faith, you shouldn’t have to choose between your head or your heart. Your love of God and your love for justice. Your desire to be faithful, but also welcoming to those some churches might exclude. This is why we were formed!
United Methodists Together is a diverse partnership of congregations in the Apex/Cary area rooted in the historic Christian faith and committed to bringing hope and renewal to our communities. Together, we seek to embody a fresh, vibrant expression of Methodism that is deeply faithful and deeply relevant for our world today.
If you are a Christian with questions, doubts, ________, _______…we welcome you with open arms. Here at UMT, we hope all wanderers can find their way back home.
Our Values
Faith and Science
We believe faith and science can and should exist alongside each other. You don’t have to check your brain at the door at our churches.
Doubts
At the core, faith was always an exploration into why we are here, who made us and what is the meaning of life. No certainties required. Your doubts, questions and skepticism are safe here.
Bible in Context
The Bible is a beautiful, inspired, yet complicated, narration of God’s story. What do we do with those verses that seem confusing or contradict Jesus’ teachings? Our churches interpret the Bible through the lens of reason, tradition and personal experience.
Women in Leadership
Speaking of which, sometimes the Bible has been used to obstruct women from living into the fullest expression of God’s call upon their life. We affirm that God calls both men and women to lead and preach in the church.
Open Table
The fact that some have felt excluded from the church breaks our hearts. After all, isn’t the church supposed to be a hospital for sinners, rather than a club for the saints? At our churches, all are welcome to fully participate in the mission and ministries of God.
Mental Health
The only thing that could make mental illness worse is being told it is due to a lack of faith or trust in God. Our churches acknowledge these are oftentimes biological or emotional wounds, not because you are a “bad Christian.” Further, we have resources to support you.
Justice
It is right there in the Great Commandment — love God and love neighbor. However, sometimes loving our neighbor means confronting unjust powers and principalities that are harming our fellow brothers and sisters. Using the Gospel, not partisan ideologies, as our guide, we will advocate for the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.
